Song for the unborn
This projects begins with the latent potentials of the curved line. The trajectory of the symbolic seed and the Mayan zero, which embody the infinite possibilities of the unborn. The elemental energies coalesce and emerge as the living. These notions are transmuted through the materiality and methodology of the artist into a post modern matrix of personal mythology and post colonial identity. Clay, mud and water are used as materials within the sculpture which rise from the origin, and merge into a new being and sculptural form. The fabric objects are empty; symbolic of containers and vessels of the elemental and the unseen potentials. The rhythmic accumulation is metaphoric of ritual drum beats, which mirror the heartbeat connecting the living and non-living realms. The rhythmic visual is melodic without audio and signal migration and passage without physical movement.
the study of dust…earthly flesh becoming dust then again into form.
